Wed Feb 26

Yesterday we began discussing some OTHER factors that may lead to insecure attachment (parent's marital status, genetic factors).
We will discuss cultural differences in attachment patterns today.


Tues Feb 25

We will look at this brief article on attachment styles.  Next, we will continue to discuss the concept of attachment, along with how it effects later development.

Mon Feb 24

Today we will begin to discuss Attachment theories  which offer explanations for emotional (and social) development in infants and children

  • complete the 'case of genie' thinking task





Fri Feb 21

We'll finish watching the documentary we began yesterday, then complete the critical thinking exercise on the Genie case.
Note that both the case of Genie (page 69) and the Wild Boy (page 5) are described in your textbook.  You may wish to review these pages to confirm your understanding of each of these unique case studies.
To wrap up the week we will discuss imprinting (page 75).

After finishing up the last presentation today, we'll watch a video; a case study that exemplifies the concept of a critical period ~ the case of Genie

Every student is responsible for taking their own notes on the presentations &/or printing copies of the slides for an upcoming open book quiz

After attendance is taken we will proceed to the library to continue researching physical development in infants and children.

Today we will start Unit 2: Infancy & Childhood (start a new section of your binder or insert a divider in your notes to place mark the start of this new unit.


  • We will begin with physical developments that occur from prenatal through to childhood.
  • You will work in a group to research & prepare a group presentation (to be saved in Halton Cloud).
  • Each group will be assigned ONE of the following age groups:
  • Use the resources provided to gather information on physical development of your assigned age group
  • Add YOUR research contributions to the shared ppt saved on halton cloud
  • Be ready to present beginning Wed Feb 19
  • You will be assigned individual marks on your knowledge and your communication skills

  • Reminder: your paragraph on how Psychology will be useful to you is NOW due!
  • Today we'll take a brief note on the 4 goals of Psychology (page 10-11). 
  • We'll continue talking about the scientific method, including 7 different METHODS of research that Psychologists use.  (see page 37-39).



Tues Feb 4
